Western Inn

Western Inn is at 4126 Mobile Highway, on the US 90 corridor a few miles west of downtown Pensacola. Built in 1959, it is one of the older motor inns still operating in the city, from the era when Mobile Highway was the main route between Pensacola and Alabama before Interstate 10 opened. Expedia lists Naval Air Station Pensacola about five miles away and the National Naval Aviation Museum about nine miles away.

The two-story motel has standard rooms with either one king bed or two queen beds, in both smoking and nonsmoking versions. Rooms include a microwave and a refrigerator, air conditioning and free WiFi, and housekeeping is daily. There is a 24 hour front desk. The property does not have a pool, breakfast, kitchenettes or a guest laundry, and pets are not allowed.

Parking is free, including space for RVs, buses and trucks.

Expedia lists Blue Wahoos Stadium on the downtown waterfront about four miles away and the Pensacola Beach Boardwalk about 14 miles away, and Historic Pensacola Village and the Pensacola Lighthouse and Maritime Museum are both within a short drive. The location between downtown and the base is handy for anyone splitting time between the two.

Western Inn is a basic budget option for base visitors, work crews with trucks and travelers who want to be close to downtown without paying downtown rates. The rooms are simple and the building shows its age, so it suits short stays by travelers who mainly need a bed and a parking space. Checking recent reviews before booking is recommended. For travelers who like a bit of roadside history, the long, low building with doors facing the lot is a reminder of the highway motels that once lined this route into the city. Downtown’s Palafox Street restaurants are about 15 minutes east.
