The Village of Baytowne Wharf is the beating heart of the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort — a pedestrian-only waterfront village on the shores of Choctawhatchee Bay in Miramar Beach, Florida. Picture a cluster of pastel buildings, string lights over brick lanes, an events lawn that hosts concerts and festivals, and a boardwalk running out to Baytowne Marina, and you’ve got the idea. It’s the closest thing the Emerald Coast has to a walkable town square, and on a summer evening it’s one of the liveliest places between Destin and 30A.

Baytowne Wharf works for almost everyone, which is rare. Families come for Baytowne Adventure Zone’s ziplines and ropes courses and the Blast Arcade & Laser Maze, then stay for ice cream and fireworks nights. Couples settle in for oysters at Slick Lips Seafood & Oyster House or dockside live music at The Village Door. Boaters tie up at the marina, where LDV Sandestin Watersports rents pontoons and WaveRunners for a day on the bay, and Marina Bar & Grill pours sunset drinks over the water.

Do You Have to Stay at Sandestin to Visit?

No — and this is the question we hear most. Baytowne Wharf is inside the gated Sandestin resort, but it’s open to the public. Tell the gate attendant you’re visiting the Village and follow the signs to the free parking areas; from there everything is on foot. It’s about 15 minutes east of the Destin harbor and 10–15 minutes west of the 30A beach towns via Highway 98, making it an easy evening out from anywhere in South Walton.

When to Go

The Village runs an event calendar nearly year-round — weekly concerts and fireworks in the warm months, wine festivals in spring, and holiday lights and celebrations in winter. Weeknights in summer are busy but festive; arrive before dinner to snag a table on the water. In shoulder season you’ll often have the lanes half to yourself, which is its own kind of magic. However you time it, plan on an unhurried evening: eat, wander, let the kids burn energy on the ropes course, and finish with something sweet on the boardwalk.
