Destin’s Best Waterfront Restaurants: Harbor, Gulf, and Lagoon

Destin's best waterfront restaurants on the harbor, Gulf, and lagoon — where the views and the kitchens are both worth it, per locals.

Most beach towns make you choose: the view or the food. Destin’s quiet miracle is that its waterfront restaurants are its best restaurants — the harbor kitchens buy from the boats docked outside their windows. Here’s where to eat on the water, organized by which water.

On Destin Harbor

The harbor is the show: charter boats, dolphin tours, and the fleet unloading the day’s catch every afternoon.

Boshamps — The back lawn rolls right down to the water, with Adirondack chairs, a kids’ sandbox, and the town’s benchmark grouper sandwich.

AJ’s — Three levels of harbor decks and the biggest party on the water after dark. Come for oysters at the original bar, stay for the Jumbotron deck.

Dewey Destin’s Harborside — The founding family’s fish house, where the deck seating puts you close enough to the working harbor to smell the diesel and the blackening spice together. That’s a compliment.

Harbor Docks — Back-porch water views since 1979, with sushi that has no business being this good at a fish house.

Marina Café — The polished option: harbor-view fine dining, sunset-facing tables, and a legendary martini list. Request waterside seating when booking.

Brotula’s — West-facing deck for golden hour, and the Hook & Cook program means your charter catch can be dinner an hour after it hits the dock.

On the Gulf

The Back Porch — Destin’s original toes-in-the-sand seafood house since 1974. Every seat is steps from the sand, and the chargrilled amberjack sandwich was invented here.

On the Lagoon

Louisiana Lagniappe — The insider’s sunset. Tucked into Holiday Isle overlooking Old Pass Lagoon, its west-facing tables catch the best golden hour in town — with Bayou-style grouper to match. Book an early table facing the water.

Timing the Water

4:30–5:30 p.m.: The charter fleet returns and unloads along the harbor — free entertainment before an early dinner beats the rush.

Golden hour: Brotula’s and Marina Café face west on the harbor; Louisiana Lagniappe owns the lagoon. Pick your sunset per night.

Summer strategy: Waterfront tables go first everywhere. Reservations where taken (Marina Café, Brotula’s, Louisiana Lagniappe); early arrival where not (Boshamps, Back Porch).
