Know the Beach Rules
Restaurant patios are the easy part; beaches are the strict part. In Walton County (30A), dogs are allowed on the beach only with a county permit, available to property owners and their guests, and only during limited morning and evening hours. Destin and Okaloosa Island beaches generally prohibit dogs outside a designated dog beach area. Rules and hours change — check current county regulations before you unleash anything.
The reliable alternatives: the Timpoochee Trail welcomes leashed dogs for the full 19 miles, Point Washington State Forest’s trails are dog-friendly, and Grayton’s dog-permit culture makes it the most dog-centric town on the coast.
