Air Force Armament Museum

The Air Force Armament Museum calls itself the only museum in the world dedicated to Air Force armament. Its collection runs from World War II aircraft to modern jets, alongside several hundred pieces of weaponry. The museum first opened in 1974, and its current 20,000-square-foot building opened in 1985.

The museum is at 100 Museum Dr, just outside Eglin Air Force Base’s west gate, phone 850-882-4062, online at afarmamentmuseum.com. The mailing address says Eglin AFB, but the museum is not on the installation. It is open to everyone, and no base pass is needed. The airpark includes an SR-71A Blackbird, a B-52G Stratofortress, a B-17G Flying Fortress, a MiG-21, a P-47 Thunderbolt, a P-51 Mustang and an F-15E Strike Eagle. Indoors are a GBU-43 MOAB, a gun vault spanning 1903 Springfield rifles to the GAU-8 cannon, the Sikes Antique Pistol Collection of more than 180 handguns, prisoner of war exhibits and the African American Military Heritage Hall, opened in 2022.

Admission is free, and donations are welcome (as of September 2026). The indoor galleries are open daily, 9am to 5pm, closed Thanksgiving and Christmas. The outdoor airpark is open daily from sunup to sundown. Parking is free, including space for RVs and buses when available.

Free wheelchairs are available at the front desk. Groups of five or more can book a guided tour at least a week ahead by calling 850-882-4151. The museum is supported by the Air Force Armament Museum Foundation, a nonprofit formed in 1976.
