Anchored in Freeport

Anchored in Freeport is a public art series that places giant decorated anchors around Freeport, a town shaped by its history as an 1830s port and timber-shipping community along the bay. It is a partnership between the City of Freeport and the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County, and it is the newest addition to the CAA’s Art in Public Spaces program. The anchors were dedicated on November 22, 2025, in a ceremony that kicked off the Festival of Lights at The Windmills at Hammock Bay.

The anchors are displayed at sponsor-designated sites, public parks, local businesses and city buildings around Freeport, FL 32439, and are free to see. Project details are on the Cultural Arts Alliance website, culturalartsalliance.com, and on the City of Freeport’s website.

Each piece starts as a locally made cast-concrete anchor about 4.5 feet tall, which a local artist then transforms. Anchors stand at spots such as The Windmills at Hammock Bay and local businesses around town. Hunting for the anchors makes an easy family scavenger hunt on a drive through town.
