Pensacola Opera
About
Pensacola Opera began in 1983 as Pensacola Chamber Opera, a grassroots venture of local singers, teachers and business people. Its first production, Mozart’s Così fan tutte, drew 700 people over three performances. The company moved its mainstage productions to the Saenger Theatre in the early 1990s, and in 2004 Opera America recognized it as one of the fastest-growing opera companies in the United States.
The company’s office is at 75 S Tarragona St, Pensacola, FL 32502; call 850-433-6737 or visit pensacolaopera.com. Productions are staged at the Saenger Theatre on Palafox Street, while rehearsals and offices are at the Pensacola Opera Center. The 44th season (2026–27) opens in November 2026 with The Falling and the Rising, followed by Puccini’s Tosca and Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love.
Beyond the mainstage, the opera says it serves more than 40,000 children and adults a year through performances, education programs and community events, with education programs alone reaching more than 13,000 people across the region. Its Jan Miller Studio Artist program brings five emerging professional singers to Pensacola each year, and the company commissioned its first original opera, The Widow’s Lantern.
