About

Destin has called itself the World’s Luckiest Fishing Village since October 15, 1956, when Florida Governor LeRoy Collins stopped through town on his way to the Pensacola State Fair. Local photographer Arturo Mennillo and fisherman Salty Brunson talked him into a quick fifteen minute harbor tour aboard the boat Miss Kathy, and in that short window Collins landed a nineteen pound king mackerel. When a reporter asked how that was possible so fast, Collins reportedly said, “Not if you’re fishing out of Destin. Them boys live with the fish. Destin’s the world’s luckiest fishing village.” The line made regional headlines, the nickname stuck, and Destin now anchors the largest fleet of state and federally permitted charter boats in Florida, with roughly 125 vessels working out of its harbor.

Destin Party Boat Fishing operates two of those boats, the Destiny and the Destin Princess, bringing more than fifty years of combined Gulf fishing experience to trips that depart straight from Destin Harbor. Both vessels are described by the company as fast, clean, and air conditioned, built to carry between 41 and 56 passengers with onboard restrooms and ice on hand to keep the day’s catch fresh until the boat returns to the dock.

Trip lengths scale to whatever a family or a group has time for. Half day options include a 4 hour trip aimed at kids and a 6 hour trip that is the company’s most popular choice, with full day trips running 8 or 10 hours for anglers who want more time on the water. For serious trips, extended 12, 14, and 18 hour fishing rodeo outings are available, and private charters can be arranged directly with the company. Roughly half of any trip is spent running out to the fishing grounds, with the rest dedicated to actual fishing, so a longer trip translates fairly directly into more time with a line in the water.

Every trip includes bait, tackle, and a fishing license, so no one needs to buy a separate license or show up with their own gear. Depending on the season, anglers typically bring in vermillion snapper, grouper, triggerfish, amberjack, king mackerel, cobia, and mahi-mahi, with red snapper joining the list when that season is open. Crew members clean the catch at the dock afterward for a small per pound fee, so visitors headed to a rental kitchen can walk off the boat with fillets ready to cook rather than whole fish to clean themselves.

Because food and drinks are not sold on board, pack sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, snacks, and something to drink, along with a hand towel or wet wipes for the inevitable mess that comes with reeling in fish all day. Anyone planning to take fish home should bring a small cooler for the ride back to the condo or hotel. The company has built a strong reputation on the water, with more than 2,000 five star reviews and recognition including a Travelers’ Choice award and a Best in Destin 2025 title.
