Hotel Effie Sandestin

Hotel Effie is the only hotel on the Emerald Coast with a rooftop pool, and that single fact explains most of why people book it. The 250 room property sits on the bay side of Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Miramar Beach, inside the gates, a short walk from the Village of Baytowne Wharf and a free tram ride from the sand. It opened in 2021 and joined Marriott’s Autograph Collection.

The rooftop

Ara occupies the top floor and gives Effie an identity distinct from the resort wrapped around it. Panoramic views run from Choctawhatchee Bay toward the Gulf. There are cabanas, loungers, a full bar, poolside food and music that shifts from easy in the afternoon to livelier after dark. Worth knowing before you plan an evening: the bar is open to the public, but the pool itself is for hotel guests only.

Eating and drinking

Ovide is the signature room, built around Gulf Coast seafood and southern technique, and it serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and a weekend brunch that locals rate as highly as the dinner service. The Lobby Bar handles cocktails and small plates. Sweetbay Coffee covers the morning. In room dining fills the gaps.

What comes with the address

Staying inside Sandestin means access to the whole 2,400 acre resort: more than seven miles of beach and bayfront, four championship golf courses, tennis and pickleball courts, and a marina. Budget for the mandatory $45 resort charge, which covers bike, kayak and boogie board rentals, the resort shuttle, tennis court time and discounted golf. Parking is separate at $25 a day for self park and $32 for valet. The complimentary shuttle runs to the Gulf beach through the day, which matters more than it sounds like it should, because parking on this stretch of coast is the usual headache.

Who it suits

Couples and groups who want a polished, social hotel rather than a quiet beachfront one. Families do well here too, given the suite layouts and the resort activity, but the rooftop is the reason to choose Effie over the Gulf front options a mile south.
