Gallery of Art 850 carries on one of Panama City’s oldest art traditions. Mary Ola Reynolds Miller opened the Gallery of Art in 1966, moved it to its current location in 1970 and ran it until her death in 2011, and Destination Panama City credits her as the first to open an art gallery in the city. Since April 2023, Mark White and Kim Griffin White have run the gallery, carrying on the cultural mission of Miller and her family.
The gallery is at 36 W Beach Dr, Panama City, FL 32401, in Historic Downtown Panama City, and the website is maryolamillergalleryofart.com. It describes itself as a downtown fine art gallery and listening room, and admission is free.
The walls feature local artists working in painting, pottery, sculpture and other media, and the gallery showcases woodcut and linocut printmaker Kreg Yingst, whose prints and published books are on hand. Beyond exhibitions, the gallery hosts live music, documentary film screenings and receptions. Hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 11am–5pm. The in-house Underglass Framery is open weekdays, 11am–5pm, for custom framing. Combine a visit with a stroll along Beach Drive and Harrison Avenue in the downtown arts district.
