West Florida Railroad Museum

The West Florida Railroad Museum occupies Milton’s 1909 Louisville & Nashville depot, a combination freight and passenger station built to replace an earlier Pensacola & Atlantic depot that burned in 1907. The depot has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1982, and the museum inside opened in 1989 to tell how the railroads opened the Panhandle to the rest of the country.

Find it at 5003 Henry St in Milton, phone 850-623-3645, online at wfrm.org. Inside are railroad memorabilia, historic photographs, documents and model railroads. Outside, the rolling stock includes L&N caboose No. 1148, built in 1965, a 1934 Frisco caboose, dining cars and L&N No. 1652, a 1911 Pullman later converted to a baggage-dormitory car. A bridge tender’s house from the old Escambia Bay trestle and a section shed with a motor car round out the grounds.

The museum bills its outdoor G-scale garden railway as the largest in the Southeast, and there is also a 7-inch-gauge riding railroad. The Santa Rosa Historical Society owns the depot and leases it to the museum, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. In 2025 a 1940s brick house was moved to the museum grounds, with plans to turn it into a walkable museum.

Hours are Friday and Saturday, 10am to 3pm. The phone is not always staffed, so the museum recommends emailing conductor@wfrm.org about birthday parties, private events or group visits.
