Silver Shells Beach Resort & Spa is a gated condominium resort on 31 acres at 15000 Emerald Coast Parkway in Destin, set directly on the Gulf beside Henderson Beach State Park. The resort has more than 1,000 feet of private beach, and the state park next door means undeveloped dunes stretch along one side of the property instead of more high-rises.

The towers are named for Caribbean islands: St. Barth, St. Croix, St. Maarten and St. Lucia, with a fifth tower, St. Kitts, in development. Condos range from studios and one-bedroom units up to large two-, three- and four-bedroom residences and penthouses, and some ground-level cabana units open toward the pool. Units have full kitchens, washers and dryers and balconies, and select units have covered garage parking. The St. Lucia building sits closest to the clubhouse, where the resort’s front desk and amenities center are based.

The centerpiece is a 7,500-square-foot lagoon-style pool with a waterfall, along with a children’s pool, a hot tub and an indoor/outdoor heated pool at the clubhouse. The Spa at Silver Shells offers massage, facials, body treatments, manicures and pedicures, with half-day and full-day packages. Ruth’s Chris Steak House operates on the property, and a seasonal beach bar serves casual food and drinks near the sand. Beach service provides two chairs and an umbrella daily from March 1 through October 31 for many rentals, and water sports rentals such as kayaks, sailboats and personal watercraft are available on the beach. There is also a fitness center, tennis and pickleball courts, a basketball court and gas grills.

The location on the Emerald Coast Parkway puts Destin Commons, Big Kahuna’s and The Track a short drive west, and the shops and restaurants of Grand Boulevard and Sandestin about 15 minutes east. Henderson Beach State Park’s boardwalks, nature trail and campground are next door, and Destin Harbor is roughly 10 minutes away.

Silver Shells suits families and couples who want a resort setting with a large pool, a spa and a steakhouse on site, along with the extra space of a condo. The grounds are gated and spread out, so it feels more like a self-contained resort than a single tower. Units are rented through several management companies, including Compass Resorts, so guests should confirm which company manages their condo and what beach service is included. Unit choice matters on a property this size: the St. Lucia tower is closest to the clubhouse, cabana units open toward the lagoon pool, and upper-floor condos in the towers look out over both the Gulf and the state park. Couples may want a studio or one-bedroom near the spa, while larger families often prefer a three- or four-bedroom residence with a washer and dryer and room to spread out.
