Grayton Beach State Park
About
Grayton Beach State Park covers nearly 2,000 acres on 30A, next to the old beach town of Grayton Beach. It’s the classic place to see a coastal dune lake: Western Lake, about 100 acres, sits just behind the dunes, a few steps from a white-sand beach that regularly lands on national best-beach lists.
Western Lake and the dune lakes
Coastal dune lakes are found in only a handful of places in the world. They sit behind the beach and now and then break through the sand to flow into the Gulf. Grayton has three of them. Paddle Western Lake in a rented canoe or kayak (paddles and life vests included), or fish the lake and the surf with a license.
Trails
- Nature trail: a 1-mile loop from the beach parking area through dunes, salt marsh and pine flatwoods.
- Western Lake trail: 4.5 miles each way (9 miles round trip) for hiking and biking.
Stay overnight
The park has 59 campsites with water, electric and sewer, and 30 two-bedroom cabins that sleep six, with a two-night minimum. Book up to 11 months ahead, especially for spring and summer.
Good to know
- Entry: $5 per vehicle.
- Hours: 8 a.m. to sunset, every day. The park often fills up and may close to new cars for a while, so arrive early.
- Beach: about a mile of beach, with no lifeguards.
- Dogs: allowed in day-use areas on a 6-foot leash, but not on the beach or in cabins.
