Vortex Spring
About
Vortex Spring is a privately run spring resort in Holmes County, just north of Ponce de Leon and about 5 minutes from Ponce de Leon Springs State Park. The spring pours out about 28 million gallons of 68-degree water a day, and the family that runs it has welcomed divers since the early 1970s.
Swimming
In season, the swim area has water slides, jumping platforms, a rope swing, tube floats and paddleboard rentals. The 2026 swim season runs April 2 to September 30.
Diving
Vortex is one of the best-known dive training sites in the Southeast, and diving is open year-round. The clear basin drops to about 50 feet, then a cavern runs back about 300 feet to a locked gate at 115 feet. Only divers with the right certification may enter the cavern and cave. The on-site dive shop rents gear, fills air and nitrox, and teaches courses from Discover Scuba to rescue diver. Divers must be at least 10 years old.
Stay overnight
The 520-acre property has rustic cabins, lodges and RV and tent sites with water and electric, plus primitive camping.
