Ali’s Bistro

Fort Walton Beach
Brick-oven pizza Wine bar

About

Ali’s Bistro brings a genuine Italian kitchen and wine bar to Brooks St SE in Fort Walton Beach, a few doors from the water in the same downtown stretch as the city’s waterfront Landing park. The restaurant describes its own setting as elegant yet casual, and that balance shows in a menu that ranges from brick-oven pizza to filet mignon without feeling like it is trying to be everything at once.

The story behind it starts far from Florida. Ali grew up in a village with an early passion for food and worked his way up from waiter to maitre d’ aboard a cruise ship, the kind of job that trains a person in hospitality fast. It was on that ship that he met his wife, Charlotte. After the two eventually settled in the Florida Panhandle, Ali put his savings from his years at sea into opening an Italian restaurant in a stretch of coast that, at the time, had little in the way of serious Italian cooking. Ali’s Bistro filled that gap for both Fort Walton Beach and nearby Destin.

The restaurant has stayed a family operation. Ali and Charlotte still work regularly on-site, and their two sons, Oshkin and Bolton, work alongside them, giving the dining room the feel of a place actually run by the people whose name is on the door rather than a hired management team.

Dinner starts with a long list of Italian starters: bruschetta, calamari, escargot, mussels, fried ravioli, and antipasta, plus a rotating soup of the day and Ali’s own garlic olive oil dip served with bread. Salads run from a straightforward house salad to a Caesar, a Greek salad, and a caprese built on fresh mozzarella and tomato, alongside the restaurant’s own composed Ali’s Bistro salad.

Pizza comes from a brick oven, and the list runs well past a basic margherita: a white pizza, a chef’s special, a veggie lover’s version, a spicier piccante pie, an anchovy pizza for purists, a Hawaiian, a deep pan deluxe, and a wild mushroom pizza. Pasta gets equal attention, with classic homemade meat lasagna, baked ziti, spaghetti and meatballs, and manicotti sitting next to less common dishes like portobella mushroom ravioli, pasta carbonara, spinach tortellini, and pasta Aurora.

For chicken and veal, the kitchen covers the standard Italian repertoire well: chicken and veal parmesan, marsala, and piccata, plus chicken florentine. Seafood and steak options push the menu further, with pan-seared salmon, shrimp scampi, a seafood pasta, lobster ravioli paired with shrimp, and fried shrimp for a lighter option, while ribeye, filet mignon, and rack of lamb cover the steakhouse side of the menu.

The dining room itself is described as elegant and quaint, suited to date nights and special occasions, but the back patio is the detail worth planning around: it looks out over boats and docks on the water, a quieter counterpoint to the main room. Given the address on Brooks Street, that view lines up with the same waterfront stretch as the nearby Fort Walton Beach Landing park, so a stroll along the water before or after dinner is an easy add-on.
