Bud & Alley’s opened in 1986 as the first restaurant and watering hole in Seaside, arriving just five years after Robert Davis broke ground on what would become the world’s first New Urbanist town. Two 24 year old surfing buddies started the place, and the story that has followed it ever since is that they named the restaurant after a cat and a dog rather than after themselves, a fitting detail for a beach town that at the time had grown to only about a dozen houses. All four operate as distinct restaurants with their own menus and hours, but they share the same Gulf-to-table sourcing and the same laid back Seaside sensibility that made the original restaurant a local institution.
