Mr. Gyro Hero’s story on Airstream Row began years earlier at the Seaside Farmers Market, where owners Olga and Burak Akkan spent more than a decade selling gyros, hummus, and salads out of a market stall. The couple, who specialize in healthy Mediterranean cooking, built a loyal following long before they had a permanent address, and in the spring of 2020 they moved that following into an Airstream trailer to become full-time vendors on Airstream Row.

That market-stall pedigree still shows in a menu built around fresh, simply prepared Mediterranean staples rather than heavy fast food. Gyros anchor the lineup, but the Akkans also serve a Greek salad, an arugula salad, a gyro salad, and a falafel salad for anyone looking for a lighter plate. Kebab platters come in chicken, shrimp, and kofte versions, each plated with the same attention to fresh ingredients that built the couple’s Farmers Market reputation.

The rest of the menu reads like a proper mezze spread: hummus, baba ghanoush, stuffed grape leaves, and tabbouleh alongside sides like seasoned fries, Greek fries, tzatziki, and feta. Wraps and sandwiches range from the classic gyro wrap to grilled chicken and even smoked salmon, and a kids menu keeps younger travelers fed with simpler options. The Akkans still run the window themselves, carrying the same hands-on approach from the Farmers Market days into the Airstream, and the trailer’s Mediterranean menu remains focused squarely on gyros as its calling card.

Parked at 2215 East County Highway 30A, Mr. Gyro Hero sits in the same Airstream Row lineup as Frost Bites, Crepes du Soleil, Wild Bill’s Beach Dogs, and Wild Nectar 30A, giving visitors a genuinely international spread within a few dozen steps. For travelers craving something other than fried seafood or ice cream during a 30A vacation, the Mediterranean menu stands out, and the Akkans’ decade of practice at the Farmers Market shows in every plate that leaves the window.

Mr. Gyro Hero’s move from market stall to permanent Airstream mirrors the growth of Seaside itself, a town developer Robert Davis began building in 1981 with architects Andres Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk as one of the country’s first New Urbanist communities, designed around walkable streets rather than car traffic. The same pedestrian-friendly layout that later drew filmmakers to shoot The Truman Show in Seaside in 1998 is what makes Airstream Row work as a business district, since visitors wander the row on foot between the beach and their rental cottage.

Because the Akkans built their name on vegetarian-friendly and kid-friendly Mediterranean cooking at the Farmers Market before ever having a permanent spot, Mr. Gyro Hero fills a real gap on a row otherwise dominated by hot dogs, crepes, and shave ice.
