Destin West Beach & Bay Resort spans both sides of Okaloosa Island at the eastern end of Fort Walton Beach, near the East Pass and the Marler Bridge into Destin. The Gulfside section sits directly on the beach at 1515 to 1517 Miracle Strip Parkway, while the Bayside section, with the front desk at 1320 Miracle Strip Parkway SE, faces Choctawhatchee Bay across the highway. An elevated pedestrian skybridge over U.S. 98 links the two halves, so bayside guests can reach the private beach without crossing traffic.

The resort was built in 2002 and is organized into several mid-rise buildings, including the Gulf tower and villas on the beach side and the Heron, Osprey, Pelican and Sandpiper buildings on the bay. Accommodations range from studio villas to three bedroom condominiums, and many units add bunk rooms or sleeper sofas for families. Every unit has a kitchen and a private balcony, with Gulfside units looking out over the water. Destin West Vacations manages rentals for the resort, and its front desk on the bayside is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with contactless check-in by text for late arrivals.

Amenities are the main draw. The bayside centerpiece is a landscaped lazy river about 700 feet long wrapped around a lagoon pool, and the resort counts seven pools and hot tubs between its two sides, several of them seasonally heated. There is a splash area and kids zone, a fitness center, grilling and picnic areas, a bayside marina with boat slips, and a fishing pier on the bay where guests can fish without a license. Select Gulfside units include daily beach chair and umbrella service in season. Guests wear wristbands for access to the pools and the private beach, and each unit receives two parking passes. Guest pets are not allowed.

The resort suits families and groups who want condo space, a lazy river and a choice between beach and bay views in one place. Guests who want to walk straight from the building to the sand should request a Gulfside unit, since bayside buildings reach the beach by the skybridge. Bayside units, in turn, sit closer to the lazy river, the marina and sunset views over Choctawhatchee Bay. Check-in is at 4 p.m. and check-out is at 10 a.m., and an after-hours emergency line covers problems outside front desk hours.

The Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island, the Okaloosa Island Pier and The Island Resort are next door to the west, and the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park is a short drive along Miracle Strip Parkway. Across the Marler Bridge, Destin’s HarborWalk Village, charter fishing fleet and Crab Island are only a few minutes away, and downtown Fort Walton Beach is a short drive west over the Brooks Bridge.
