Summer Place

Summer Place is a six-story condominium building on the Gulf side of Okaloosa Island at 1111 Santa Rosa Boulevard, toward the island’s Boardwalk end. Built in 2003, it has 53 units on more than 225 feet of beachfront, which keeps it on the smaller, lower-density side for a building of its height.

Condos are two-bedroom and three-bedroom layouts of roughly 1,160 to 1,425 square feet, with some larger combined units marketed with four bedrooms. Kitchens have granite countertops, primary baths have double vanities and cultured marble tubs, and large balconies face the Gulf.

Shared amenities include two beachfront pools, one heated, a beachfront exercise room, barbecue facilities and uncovered parking. On-site rental and management services are available, and several rental companies include seasonal beach chair service with their bookings. Short-term rentals are permitted, and the building is a regular on rental company rosters for the island.

The beach in front of Summer Place is the fine white sand and green water of eastern Okaloosa Island. Neighbors include Sea Oats, Azure and Gulf Dunes. The Okaloosa Island Boardwalk, with restaurants and entertainment, is close by, as are the Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier and the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park. Summer fireworks at the Boardwalk are a short walk away on show nights, and the sidewalk along Santa Rosa Boulevard makes evening strolls to the pier easy. Destin, with its harbor, charter fleet and shopping, is a short drive east across the East Pass bridge. Because the building sits near the Boardwalk end of the island, guests can often walk to dinner and to the pier for an evening stroll, then return along the sidewalk that runs beside Santa Rosa Boulevard.

Summer Place suits families and small groups who want a newer, mid-size building with a second pool and a fitness room, close to the attractions around the Boardwalk. The two-bedroom and three-bedroom layouts fit most family trips comfortably. When comparing listings, check the floor level, bedding and whether beach chairs are included, since each rental company sets its own terms. Brooks and Shorey, Legacy Vacations and Sunset Resort Rentals are among the companies with units here. Parking is uncovered, and the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport is roughly a half-hour drive away.
