The Breakers of Fort Walton Beach

The Breakers of Fort Walton Beach is a large Gulf-front condominium resort at 381 Santa Rosa Boulevard, on the east end of Okaloosa Island’s condo row and close to the Okaloosa Island Boardwalk. Built in the early 1980s, it has about 183 units in multiple buildings of six and seven stories. Unlike many island condos, it runs its own rental program with a staffed front desk and an overnight courtesy patrol.

Units include one-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath condos, standard and deluxe two-bedroom, two-bath condos, and three-bedroom units with two or three baths. Sizes start around 775 square feet and go up to roughly 1,750 square feet for most floor plans. Each condo has a fully equipped kitchen, and Gulf-front and Gulf-view units are available, many with balconies.

Shared amenities are extensive. There are two beachfront outdoor pools, with one heated in the cooler months, plus hot tubs, an exercise room with a sauna, lighted tennis and pickleball courts, shuffleboard, bocce, cornhole, ping pong, a fire pit on the pool deck and community grills. A meeting and party room hosts events, and a private boardwalk crosses the dunes to the beach, where seasonal beach service is available. The resort also partners with local operators on activities like snorkeling trips, dolphin cruises and golf.

The beach at the Breakers is the fine white sand of eastern Okaloosa Island. The Boardwalk’s restaurants and shops, the Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier and the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park are all a short walk or quick drive away. Destin Harbor is across the East Pass bridge, and downtown Fort Walton Beach is a short drive across the Brooks Bridge. Being this close to the Boardwalk means guests can walk to dinner, and the summer fireworks at the Boardwalk are within easy reach without moving the car.

The Breakers suits families and groups who like resort-style services such as a front desk and organized amenities, as well as travelers who want to be near the Boardwalk. Its range of unit types works for couples and larger families alike. Booking through the resort’s own rental office keeps check-in at the front desk, while units rented by outside companies or owners follow their own procedures. Weekly and monthly stays are offered, which makes the Breakers a common choice for winter visitors.
