Inlet Beach

Inlet Beach is where Scenic Highway 30A begins — or ends, depending on which direction you’re driving. Sitting at the eastern terminus of 30A where it meets Highway 98, this unpretentious community takes its name from Phillips Inlet, the pass where Lake Powell — the largest coastal dune lake in Florida — periodically breaks through the dunes to meet the Gulf. It’s the last stop in Walton County before Panama City Beach, and it remains one of the most laid-back, genuinely residential stretches of the whole corridor.

That low-key character is Inlet Beach’s biggest draw. While Rosemary Beach and Alys Beach — both just minutes west along 30A — draw the crowds with their famous architecture, Inlet Beach offers wide, uncrowded sand and one of the largest public beach accesses on 30A, complete with real parking. A pedestrian underpass beneath Highway 98 connects the neighborhood safely to the beach side, and the Timpoochee Trail puts the rest of 30A within an easy bike ride.

Lake Powell and Phillips Inlet

Nature is the headline here. Lake Powell spreads across roughly 800 acres on the community’s eastern edge — a rare coastal dune lake where you can paddle tea-colored fresh water within sight of the Gulf. Camp Helen State Park wraps around the lake’s shoreline with trails, historic buildings, and quiet beach frontage, making Inlet Beach one of the best spots on the Emerald Coast to pair a beach day with a paddle or a hike.

Inlet Beach suits families and travelers who want 30A’s beaches without 30A’s parking battles — and its location makes it a smart, often better-value base for exploring the east end. The 30Avenue shopping and dining center sits at the corner of 30A and Highway 98, and Rosemary Beach’s restaurants and boutiques are a five-minute bike ride away. Summer is busiest; spring and fall bring warm Gulf water and open sand; winter is blissfully quiet. Arrive early on holiday weekends for the main public access, bring a paddleboard for Lake Powell, and you’ve mastered Inlet Beach.
