WaterSound, Florida is 30A’s nature-first address, a private, gated beach community built around coastal dune lakes, rolling dunes, and native longleaf pine forest on the quiet eastern half of Scenic Highway 30A. Where Seaside buzzes and Rosemary Beach hums, WaterSound whispers: boardwalks over protected dunes, Camp Creek Lake meeting the Gulf, and mile after mile of some of the most unspoiled beachfront in South Walton.
WaterSound sits between Seagrove Beach and Deer Lake State Park to the west and Alys Beach to the east, putting it within a short bike ride of both the wild side of 30A and its most photographed architecture. The Timpoochee Trail runs right past the community, so cyclists can be at Seaside’s Airstream food trucks or Alys Beach’s white walls in minutes. The beach itself fronts Camp Creek Lake, one of South Walton’s rare coastal dune lakes, a phenomenon found in only a handful of places on Earth.
WaterSound Town Center
While the beachside neighborhoods are private and residential, the WaterSound Town Center (just north on the Highway 98 corridor) is open to everyone and has quickly become a dining and shopping hub for the east end of 30A. Ambrosia Prime Seafood & Steaks and Scout Sports Tavern headline the restaurant lineup, Sweet Henrietta’s handles cakes and coffee, and boutiques like Hemline 30A, Monkee’s, and FP Movement make it a legitimate shopping destination. There’s even a Publix, which makes the Town Center the practical grocery stop for anyone staying on east 30A.

WaterSound is best for travelers who want quiet: couples, families with a rental in the community, golfers, and anyone who prioritizes nature over nightlife. Beach access within WaterSound is private to the community and its guests, so day visitors should plan on nearby public accesses in Seagrove Beach or at Deer Lake State Park. Spring and fall offer the best mix of weather and calm; summer books far ahead. If your ideal 30A day is a long walk on an empty beach followed by a good dinner, WaterSound is your place.
