“Where to stay in Pensacola” is really four questions. Pensacola Beach puts you on the sand of Santa Rosa Island, next to the boardwalk and the fishing pier. Perdido Key, to the west, trades nightlife for quiet condos and protected dunes. Navarre Beach, to the east, is the calmest of the three. And downtown Pensacola, across the bay, is about history, restaurants and small hotels rather than the beach. Here’s how to pick the right one, and where to stay once you do.
Quick answer
- Beachfront hotel near the action: Hilton Pensacola Beach or Holiday Inn Resort on Pensacola Beach.
- Families who want pools and space: Portofino Island Resort.
- Quiet condos by the National Seashore: Sandy Key on Perdido Key.
- A small town beach: SpringHill Suites Navarre Oceanfront by the Navarre Beach pier.
- History, restaurants and walkability: Hotel Margot or Oyster Bay Boutique Hotel downtown.
- Budget beach stay: Paradise Inn on the sound, or a kitchen suite in Gulf Breeze.
Pensacola Beach: the classic beach vacation
Pensacola Beach is the busiest of the three beaches, and the hotels along Via De Luna Drive and Fort Pickens Road put you on the Gulf within walking distance of Casino Beach, the Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier and the Quietwater Beach Boardwalk.
- Hilton Pensacola Beach: a 17-story, 275-room Gulf-front tower with suites up to three bedrooms, two beachfront pools and an indoor heated pool, within walking distance of the boardwalk.
- Holiday Inn Resort Pensacola Beach: 206 rooms, including kid suites, and a 250-foot seasonally heated lazy river with free tubes.
- SpringHill Suites Pensacola Beach: a four-story, all-suite Marriott on the sand with daily breakfast, a good fit for small families.
- The Pensacola Beach Resort: the former Margaritaville Beach Hotel, relaunched in 2023 as an independent resort with more than 800 feet of Gulf frontage.
For families who want a condo with resort amenities, Portofino Island Resort spreads two- and three-bedroom units across five Mediterranean-style towers, each with its own heated pool and hot tub. And for something simple, Paradise Inn is a small, pet-friendly motel on Santa Rosa Sound with its own bay beach, a bar and grill and live music, with the Gulf just across the street.
Best for: first-time visitors, families and anyone who wants restaurants, the pier and nightlife close by.
Tradeoff: it’s the busiest beach in the area on summer weekends, and traffic over the bridges can back up.
Perdido Key: condos, dunes and quiet
West of Pensacola Beach, Perdido Key is almost all condos, and much of its shoreline is protected by Perdido Key State Park and the Johnson Beach area of Gulf Islands National Seashore. That means dunes and open beach instead of an unbroken row of towers.
Sandy Key Condominiums is a gated resort of three eight-story towers with about 800 feet of private beach, right next to the National Seashore, so the view east is dunes rather than buildings. Units have two or three bedrooms and full kitchens. Nearby, every condo at Perdido Sun Beachfront Resort opens onto the Gulf through floor-to-ceiling glass. And for golfers, Lost Key Golf & Beach Club wraps 413 acres around an Arnold Palmer Design Group course, with a private beach club for guests.
The famous Flora-Bama sits at the Alabama line on the west end, and Orange Beach and Gulf Shores are a short drive beyond it. See our guide to things to do in Perdido Key for more.
Best for: families and couples who want a quiet beach and a full kitchen.
Tradeoff: there are few hotels, and you’ll drive for most restaurants.
Navarre Beach: the calm one
Navarre Beach sits on a slim, low-key stretch of Santa Rosa Island between Pensacola Beach and Okaloosa Island, and it has kept a residential feel. SpringHill Suites by Marriott Navarre Oceanfront has 161 suites on six floors, right next to the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier. Most other stays are condos, like the three Gulf-front towers of Summerwind Resort, where every unit faces the water.
On the mainland side of the bridge, Residence Inn Navarre Waterfront opened in 2025 on Santa Rosa Sound, with kitchen suites and free breakfast. For campers, Navarre Beach Camping Resort and The Hideaway Retreat both have RV sites along the sound.
Best for: families with young kids, anglers and anyone who wants the beach without the crowds.
Tradeoff: very little nightlife, and Pensacola is about 45 minutes away.
Downtown Pensacola: history and restaurants
Staying in downtown Pensacola means walking to Palafox Street, Historic Pensacola Village and some of the best restaurants on the coast, with the beach about 20 minutes away.
- Hotel Margot: 45 design-led rooms and a courtyard pool on North Palafox, reopened in 2026 after a full renovation.
- Oyster Bay Boutique Hotel: an 11-room hotel on Bayfront Parkway, steps from Seville Square and the water.
- Lily Hall: a 1928 church in Old East Hill, restored as a small hotel with a record player and vinyl in every room.
- Pensacola Victorian Bed & Breakfast: four rooms in an 1892 Queen Anne house built by a sea captain who became mayor.
- Celestine Bed and Breakfast: four rooms in an 1880s home in the North Hill historic district.
There are also branded hotels downtown with pools and parking, including Residence Inn and Hilton Garden Inn. Plan the day with our perfect day in downtown Pensacola.
Best for: couples, history lovers, food-focused trips and anyone visiting in the cooler months.
Tradeoff: you’ll drive to the beach.
In between: Gulf Breeze
Gulf Breeze sits between downtown and Pensacola Beach, and its hotels are a smart value base for both. Home2 Suites by Hilton Gulf Breeze has 109 kitchen suites and free breakfast, about two miles from Pensacola Beach and five from downtown. See every option on our Pensacola stays page.
Tips for booking in the Pensacola area
- Beach or downtown? If the beach is the point, stay on the island. If food and history matter more, stay downtown and drive to the beach for a day.
- Check the bridge. Pensacola Beach is reached by the Bob Sikes Bridge from Gulf Breeze, which has a toll.
- Book condos by the unit. On Perdido Key and Navarre Beach, most stays are individually owned condos, so check each unit’s photos and layout.
- Fly into PNS. Pensacola International Airport is about 20 minutes from downtown.
